When Sushma Mam did a mock interview with me, she lead with, “Tell me about yourself. ” it’s better exercise because this is much the very first thing the interviewer can take you to do whether you’re giving the preliminary phone screen, speaking to your prospective boss, or sitting down with the CEO within the last turn.
Even though it’s one of the most familiar questions, it nearly constantly stumps us. It might be like the easy win after all, you know all about yourself! But reacting to the request to discuss you in the context of the business audience may feel stressful and complicated.
I always feel difficult to answer because it is comprehensive and open-ended. It’s not just a question that asks for an answer, she helped me to understand that there is no right or wrong answer when it comes to career development. It just requires some thought and consideration.
She later gave me some advice on how to approach this situation: If you are asking for a job, ask yourself what you want to do with your life. If you are asking for a promotion, ask yourself what type of position you would like to have than what they are interested in. If you’re asked about your hobbies, try to find out what interests them and choose an ideal reply she says. I was given few more tips on how to approach this situation.
In the end my conversation with Sushma Mam was very helpful for my career growth.
